RAISE THE ROOF CAMPAIGN

Friends of Newport Beach Animal Shelter (FONBAS) is happy to announce the acquisition of a property on Riverside Drive where a new state-of-the-art facility will be built and donated to the City for use as a permanent animal shelter.  The property is an existing kennel very close to the leased site the City is using today.  We have already raised over $2,000,000 in private donations to purchase the property, have developed a design concept with the help of City staff, and submitted plans to the City for approval.

FONBAS conducted a three-year campaign to raise capital for this acquisition and continues to raise funds for construction of the new facility as well as special care for the animals.  “We are extremely thankful for the generous support of the community and several major benefactors” said President Jon Langford.  “With the extraordinary gift of a major challenge grant from Newport residents Doug and Eva Le Bon, and a matching gift from an anonymous donor, we were able to purchase the property and begin planning the shelter of our dreams.  An additional $250,000 challenge from the Le Bons brings us close to our goal to upgrade the basic building to the finest quality available.”

Evelyn Hart, FONBAS Board member and former Newport Beach Mayor added that, “Like the Friends of OASIS and Friends of the Library, our mission is to build on the excellent work the City does to help each animal put its best paw forward.”

FONBAS is dedicated to serving the needs of animals to restore their well-being and reunite them with their owners or find new forever homes.  Our Board’s Facilities Committee is working with the City planners and Shelter staff to design a facility that will provide the highest quality spaces for the animals to live, thrive and be available for adoption by new owners,
